UPDATES FROM OUR PRESIDENT 01/2018
Dear Members,
Greetings to all of you!
Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Singapore (SNAMES) held its 46th Annual
General Meetings (AGM) on the 28th March 2018. It is my privilege and honour to be elected as
the new President of SNAMES for the term. Together with my colleagues in the new council term,
we strive to raise the bar of the Society to serve and uphold the Society’s objectives and purposes.
I am pleased to share with you the new council’s strategy from 2018-2021: Leading Towards a
Digital, Agile and Sustainable Future. The strategy sets the ambition and direction for SNAMES for
the next three years – how we will tackle challenging markets and at the same time create new
opportunities for the Society.
The new council saw members from various nationalities elected in. In addition, we have a total of five female members elected to the council
this year. We believe the vibrancy and diversity brought by the new EXCO and council will give the Society an edge towards reaching out to our
members and collaborative opportunities with other societies and organisations.
Several events have been organised since the new council came on board. The Technology Committee, led by chairperson Mr. Ankit Choudhary,
have organised & co-organised two technical talks. Our 1
st Members’ Night was held on 08 June 2018, thanks to the organiser, Ms. Kitty Zhang,
chairperson of the Social committee and her team members. We are glad that all events have received good feedback from the attendees.
However, we hope to see more of YOU joining us in our future events!
Our annual E-journal of 2017/2018 has been completed and published on our website on 1
st June 2018, thanks to the great effort poured in by
our Publication committee in putting together all the papers. The committee is currently chaired by Mr. Ivan Stoytchev.
One of the most important tasks that the new EXCO & council have identified is the updating of our membership database. As the sustainability
of the Society is very much dependent on the membership subscription, our Membership committee, led by Chairperson Ms Joyce Tan, and our
Honorary Treasurer, Mr. Ken Chin, have been tasked to begin members’ data collecting and updating exercise. Members will receive emails
and/or letters to request for your latest particulars and we hope that you will take a little bit of your precious time to provide and respond to us
on the requested information. We hope that all our members will be informed and updated on our news, events and development and that no
one will be missed!
In keeping up with the trend of digitalisation, the Society is also revamping our website to better serve the members. By now, you will see the
new layout of the website, although it is not fully functional yet. We aim to complete the web-revamping project in Q4 of 2018. This project is
managed by the newly-formed Media committee, whose objective is to reach out to members and public further. The committee, chaired by
Ms. Dawn Setoh, is also responsible in updating our social media pages. So, do “LIKE” and “FOLLOW” us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn
pages!
2018 is SNAMES’ 45th Anniversary, which marks another significant milestone of the Society. All council members, together with the Social
committee have been working hard to organise this important event of the year – our 45th Anniversary Gala Dinner, which will be held on 20
November 2018 at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. This major project is led by our Vice President, Mr. Yeo Teck Chye, together with the Social
committee under his leadership.
We couldn’t emphasize more that we need your support, collaboration and partnership as members and stakeholders within the industry to
better serve and uphold the Society’s objectives and purposes. Please feel free to drop me an email for any good feedback performed by our
team or any comment for improvement.
Last but not least, on behalf of SNAMES, I wish you a happy and blessed 53rd Singapore National Day!
Thank you.
